Bloom Supermarkets in Fredericksburg Area “Helping Kids Bloom” by Donating $28,700 to Local Food Bank
(Fredericksburg, Va.) - Fredericksburg area Bloom supermarkets presented a $28,741 check to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank at its Bloom store on Tidewater Trail in Fredericksburg. The funds were raised by eight Bloom stores in the Fredericksburg area through its, “Helping Kids Bloom” initiative during the holidays and will be used to help Fredericksburg area children in need.
“We are excited to be able to make this kind of contribution to our friends and neighbors during these tough economic times,” said Debbi Goode, district culture and service manager for Bloom. “In a time when donations are down, but people need help more than ever, we are proud of our associates and customers who made this happen.”
Bloom’s, “Helping Kids Bloom” program partnered with Feeding America and raised a total of $133,557 for local food banks in four states. Feeding America works as a nationwide facilitator for the distribution of funds to local, affiliate food banks. Shoppers were given the option at check-out to have one, three or five dollars added to their total order to be donated to Feeding America, which supports the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.
Representatives from the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank were on hand today to accept the check from Bloom and celebrate with employees and guests. “We are very grateful for such a large donation from our friends at Bloom,” said Oya Oliver, executive director, Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. “This will fill a great need for more funds as our demand right now is very high.”
