Upstate Bloom Supermarkets “Helping Kids Bloom”
by Raising $25,000 for Two Local Food Banks

(Greer, S.C.) – Upstate Bloom supermarkets presented a $25,000 check to representatives from Golden Harvest and Harvest Hope food banks at its Greer Bloom store today. The funds were raised by Upstate Bloom stores through its, “Helping Kids Bloom” initiative during the holidays and will be used to help Upstate children in need.
Bloom’s, “Helping Kids Bloom” program partnered with Feeding America and raised a total of $133,557 for local food banks in four states. Feeding America works as a nationwide facilitator for the distribution of funds to local, affiliate food banks. Shoppers were given the option at check-out to have one, three or five dollars added to their total order to be donated to their local food bank.
“Donations everywhere are down because of the tough economic times,” said Michelle Younce, district culture and service manager for Bloom. “We realize that now more than ever people need help, and as a grocery store, we are in a position to provide that help. Our associates and guests saw the need and went above and beyond to assist those less fortunate in their community.”
Golden Harvest Food Bank services two Upstate Bloom locations and was presented with a check for $7,054. Harvest Hope Food Bank services five Upstate Bloom locations and was presented with a check for $17,946. The donation amounts were based on the total raised per store in each food bank’s service area.
Bloom (www.shopbloom.com) is a banner of Food Lion, LLC, a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group (NYSE: DEG). Bloom operates stores in North and South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.
